Field tests with our new ASTRA EXTEND agriculture net were accomplished in May '09. This net is specifically useful for harvesting green fodder, alfalfa and dryed grasses, using any type of baling press. It is also perfect for the preliminary make of hay-silage. Special characteristics of the net's construction allow for full covering the bales' edges in the course of netting which, in case of silage, reduces risk of „air-bubbles" development.

It is made in rhomb-type symmetrical weave. Two outermost passages at the both edges of the net are thickened by additional wefts and a distance between adjacent chains is bigger than in case of standard-type nets. ASTRA EXTEND net is wound on a standard 1250mm tube and its typical length amounts from 2000m to 3000m, but on special request it can be made longer. We have named this net with the English word „extend" because its unique construction allows for such the extension that the net fully and evenly covers the cylindrical part of bale from one edge to another when using conventional baling press, and, in case of using baling press with the „cover edge" system*, the outermost passages of 20mm width will cover also edges of both side surfaces of the bale. Those thickened outermost passages will cover tightly edges of the bales and, thus, put down the sticking out corn stalks. This advantage appears invaluable in case of hay-silage preparation because such the sticking out corn stalks can easily tear out the foil in course of wrapping the ready bales. The similar effect can be achieved when using cover edge nets of Israeli make, but first, those nets cannot be applied in the conventional baling presses since the nets are of 1300mm width (therefore, the price must be higher, too), and second, they do not offer the thickened outermost passages, and, too, due to the fact that considerably big parts of the bale's side surfaces get covered with this type of net, it is difficult to unbind or cut the net for getting out contents of the bale.

On the drawing No.1 you can see the specific weave of our net. Results of the field tests are shown on the photos. Baling press JOHN DEREE with the „Cover Edge" system (system of spreading the net) and baling press CLAAS 380 were used for the tests, with the equally great results.
